Always a great read! Can I just share what the revenue streams I am working on as a way of consolidating and saying it out loud? I have a coaching group running in person where I live at the moment - this will run again in the autumn. I have a 1:1 coaching experience called Creative Wander which I’m about to start hyping, which takes place outside - JOY! And I’m designing a performance and wellbeing coaching offering for corporate. It feels like a struggle to power forward as I’m also in the inbetween maternity / working zone. But seeing this written down makes me feel progress is happening!
We need a name for the zone! It’s so hard isn’t it. Sort of one foot in and one foot out. Which can be thrown into disarray from a cold. (Not even ours). Do you have a predicted percentage split for each one?
Just stumbled upon your Substack. I am really very interested in your body of work on Substack. I am going to read more. I am 3 months into writing ‘full-time’ on Substack so, still in the infancy stages awaiting that coveted first paid subscriber and others that follow. The plan is to build my newsletter into a full time income in the near future. I applaud that you are making Substack your full time pursuit especially as you have a young family. Your children will enjoy having the extra time with you without question.
I am re-stacking your writing and subscribing. Best to you - Onward and upward.
Ah @Sheryl O'Connell I really appreciate this. It is definitely a gamble and sometimes I think no, stop trying to do this and go back to agency work its better paid short-term, but I have to remember this is the long play.
I guess I was writing from the angle of being a PR agency owner and alternative ways to make an income from a service business perspective that many of us are not taught about. Great that you already know about all of them already.
Really timely, reading this rn! I have multiple streams of income and I decided this year I want one of those to be passive (and that's book royalties) and I am adding in one from part time employment as I want one stream to come from a source that isn't bankrolled by me) A stream of income for me that's getting more lucrative is something I started solely for fun and excercise -dog walking/sitting!
I honestly think it was so good and so spot on. We so often switch are businesses based on peers (or maybe I have historically done that) and its taken me a long time to follow my own calling!
I’m working on diversifying my income streams so it’s useful to see how others are doing it. My main focus is branding projects, which is how I’d like to keep it, and I also enjoy playdays (design intensives, returning from autumn when I can focus for longer) and 1:1 mentoring. Next up for me is a product launch on Kickstarter - a card deck as it happens…based on my Brand Seasons method - and there’s my Substack, of course, but I’d quite like to keep it as a strand of my business.
I have recently added some on demand workouts options and I am shifting the way I do my Personal Training. Mainly so it works better for me and I free up some of my time/energy but also so it makes it more sustainable for my clients too. It's always reassuring to hear you talks about doing things differently to suit your phase of life so thank you for sharing!!! 🫶
Aww I am so pleased to know that it helps. I think my biggest learning as well is that a lot of it is down to the hype. I "sell" or promote my paid substack every day but because I believe in it so much it doesn't feel a chore, it feels fun because I know it is a great hybrid PR service. With your on demand work outs your job is to keep on reminding people its there.
Thanks! I love the tips and value you offer here. I’d love to get into public speaking but I worry that is easier if you’re speaking more about business/personal improvement. I write about Indian food and currently host food walks and the occasional cooking class to diversify my income but not sure how to pitch either too corporates to get into the speaking route
We touched on this briefly in the workshop with Alex. Maybe it could be more of a workshop / team building exercise. Team away day. That sort of thing.
I want to see what speaking opportunities i might have, actually! Also the mentoring piece could be something I do with a few (ive been doing it for free or for favours for too long!) thank you for sharing so much wisdom ! I am rooting for you to make substack your main income and i am i inspired to consider whether I could do so too!

Action is the heart of results!
Good luck and savour the time with your little ones as they won't be little for long.
Thank you I appreciate that
I like Domestika.
Why thank you x
keep us posted how it's going with Substack until Sep 2026 :)
Will do! I pop a little bit of an update each month in my free newsletter The Hype just on stats... nothing massive.
Good ways indeed, but not really "alternative" anymore.

Another wonderful read. Yes pls to the cards but hoping I can get them from you over a coffee when you're next back 🤞
It's on my list to somehow sell my knowledge of the industry we're in via a paid portal so much food for thought here
This is right on time!! And thank you so much for including my post!

Super helpful!

Pop me on the card list!
Have a look at Mr Bingos Kickstarter. One it’s just very silly and joyful. But two, might spark some fun ideas for you if alternate things to offer!
Howling here 🤣 best get to work on my Brand Seasons rap video!
I would totally go on a train to an unknown destination 🤣 with you
Thanks, Lucy. I’m running it throughout September so currently in planning mode!

Another one for PR cards, please. Based in Vienna, Austria so no pesky post Brexit customs if posting from France 😬☺️
Also love this variety - feels like a income stream pic n mix you’ve laid out for us (except you, incredibly, have done them all!)
I was thinking about Woolworth’s Pic N Mix today randomly. We are clearly on a wave length today.

Thanks for taking us behind the scenes!
Always! No gate keeping here.
Oooh the 52 PR Tips cards look lush! Please pop me on the waiting list for these beauts! X
YES will do! Where are you based out of interest?
Cardiff,UK
Thanks that’s really helpful!
Really loving this article. Packed with value. Thank you.
Thank you Bonnie! I’m so pleased you think that. Any in particular you fancy!

I took a long time to move my fees up on that, so you can always start with something gentle and then move it up until it feels uncomfortable.
Thanks for the rooting!
Thanks for sharing this! I also want to diversify my revenue streams so it’s very helpful! 🙏🏻
You know where I am for any questions x
