LOVE this so much Lucy. Feel like we share some parallels in terms of life stage and journey , moving out of the London creative agency scene and to a new country! I now live in Germany and have had a total mid life reboot, and with it a creative reboot too. Really enjoy hearing more of your journey, and love your work.
Thank you so much, I've put this out very sneakily. How is your relocation going? I am having major peaks and troughs. Had a huge trough last week but then you bounce back the other side and it's all not so hard.
I'm 6 years in to my relocation already - some days it feels like I'm now 'really here' and grounded, others days I'm reminded of just how far I still need to go before I can function to the level I did back in London. I still have a long way to go with improving my German language skills, which is a huge hurdle, but one I am chipping away at best as I can! I know life will feel different when I have found my personality in German. Peaks and troughs are the right description! I'm learning to be ok with it, knowing that there is progress overall. I do feel it was the right move, and this Summer was a key marker for me. This Summer I felt I was no longer hankering after the 'life I used to have' in London, and the person I used to be, and really felt like I could feel happy about the life we're creating as a family here. So overall, good! Do you feel as though you've just arrived, or do you feel quite grounded there by now? How do you experience the push and pull of the life you've left vs the one you're building? (Sorry, big questions there!)
love this Lucy! So relate to the `retired part of the world` bit 😅.. I find French culture very non-ambitious which runs so counter to UK living. Still can`t get used to it after 14 years!! However , to lean into it and discover the joys of appreciating a long lunch ( still can `t do the two hr thing..), good food and life that exists beyond work - this has to be one of the most valuable assets of French life I`ve found. Alex xx
Very unlike me to just quietly put something out so it was lovely you found this and commented. I hadn't thought about the non-ambitious part. I think as I'm a still a bit isolated and working online in the UK, the long lunch and more than just work ethic has not quite rubbed off yet but hopefully it will soon. I can't wait to find out more about you and your work.
