🍽 Weekly PR Recipe: 🎄 A Pot Luck Christmas Gifting Special 🎁🎅🏼
💌 This week you are invited to bring your own dish (product) to the kitchen
Hiya 🌊,
On the day of the US election, the world’s Top 10 richest people got $64 billion richer.
Not the cheerful opener you expect from me, but hold my PG Tips tea a second.
I’m not trying to go viral or land on Substack’s ‘Recommended Reads’. My writing, my form of activism, my mission, what underpins everything I do is to champion small business owners, solopreneurs and especially creatives.
Why?
Because together, we can make the world a better place.
I wanted to write a Christmas gift guide to feature my subscribers and help us spend with small businesses.
But time, motherhood, french studies, winter bugs, work trips - whatever you call it got the better of me.
So, instead, this week, I’m setting the PR recipe table, and you are ALL invited (and encouraged) to bring your dish. As I’m about making you take actionable steps, this is also great practice to pitch in public 🥶 (sorry, not sorry).
This is your chance to pitch your product to my list. Reply in the comments to add your own, and follow the recipe below for best practice.
Let’s get into it…

🎁Dish: Pot Luck 🎁
PR Cooking Level: Easy
Time to Prepare: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
1 x teaspoon Summary sentence: In bold “Name of product”
2/3 lines of filling: What is it, what does it do, how does it transform us?
1 x pinch of category: examples Book, Poster, Art, Photography, Substack Gift Subscription
1 x dream shopper: Small business owners, Dogs, Children under 7
Sprinkle of important details: Always share a link and starting price / recommended retail price (RRP)
Method:
Step 1: Summary sentence
Simple and snappy. What is your product or service that makes a great Christmas gift?
Example: “Hype Yourself Newsletter Gift Subscription”
Step 2: Your filling
Tell us in no more than 2/3 sentences why we need your product. Prompts include:
How does it inspire us / support us / give us creative cheer?
What is it about?
What does it look/feel like?
Example: “Weekly PR recipes of prompts, tips or templates to help you promote yourself. Served with a monthly live with me or an expert, mini-pitching directories and personal essays about my life from agency owner in London to solopreneur in rural France.”
Step 3: Your category
Where do you fit in the imaginary shop category?
Example: Gift subscription / Newsletter subscription
Step 4: Your dream buyer
Think about Christmas Gift guides online or in magazines. They will be filed under best gifts for pets, kids, tech heads, sports nerds, creatives, etc. Think about which category your gift fits into. It can be more than one, but don’t go too bananas 🍌.
Example: Freelancers, Solopreneurs, Small business
Step 4: The important stuff
Always share the URL. Always share the price. `
Example: My newsletter is £7.99 monthly / £79.99 annually.
