4-years of royalty statements later, here are some things I learnt along the way

If you are new to traditional book publishing, there is a lag between sales and receiving royalties.
My book launched in January 2020, but the first royalty statement for the January-March sales period arrived at the end of June.
I received my fourth annual royalty statement two weeks ago and realised I had crossed 10,000 units for both books.
Truthfully, I had no goal other than to sell 5,000 copies in my first year (more later).
Speaking as a very transparent person, I am still surprised by how much of the publishing industry is smoke and mirrors.
