WELCOME TO THIS WEEKS PROMPT
The trend of 3:
Two is a coincidence, three is a trend. If you want to show that your product is part of a growing trend don't be afraid of mentioning competitors to secure media exposure.
If you struggle with self-promotion, then pitching your creative product, your book, thought leadership or expertise alongside other people or things can be a way to mitigate this.
Instead of just talking about what you make. Can you include others in a similar space or competitors when pitching to journalists to show a growing trend?
Trend or feature pitching isnβt just for when you have launched, which is perfect for some of us who may want to reintroduce our work into the world.
A few ways we can look to do this:
Listicles: otherwise known as Top 10s or lists
Example: Hype Yourself was featured in βThe best books to help kickstart your career in 2020β
Barometers: A favourite often in weekend magazine supplements. Often showing what is βhotβ.
Example: Mention one of my former agency clients, The Marshmallowist, in Sunday Times Style Barometer for their CBD marshmallows
Features: If you think about a newspaper or magazine, these are the longer reads after the news pages. It might look like a piece with a few different case studies online.
Example: I talked about why I love WFH in an Evening Standard article
TV/Radio debate: If you pitch yourself as a guest but can offer examples of people with opposing perspectives, you can debate with them.
In this week's bonus for paid subscribers, we will also cover the following:
- Questions to help you identify what you could talk about in a feature
- How to find who to pitch to
- Successful pitch examples
- Opportunity for my feedback in the comments section
